LibreOffice
LibreOffice is a free, open source office suite developed by The Document Foundation, which was first released back in January 2011 and originally based on OpenOffice. Due to this, there are many similarities shared between the two office suites, although as time goes on, there are more and more differing new features. The names of the applications included in both suites however remain identical.
Applications
LibreOffice contains the following six applications:
Writer is an application that can be used for all word processing tasks, from writing a simple letter that contains just text, to more complex documents that incorporate diagrams.

Base is a database management system whereby data can be stored in tabular format, which then allows applications to be created, based on this data, using its query designer, along with a form and report builder.
Useful Links
Math is a formula editor that can be used to format both mathematical and scientific formulas, which can then be used in other LibreOffice applications.
