Graded Exams

If you wish to give yourself a goal, or would like to teach guitar in the future then you may choose to take exams. These also provide some structure to your learning. Two providers of exams are the Registry of Guitar Tutors (RGT) and RSL (Rockschool Limited).

RGT offer a range of internationally recognised exams in partnership with the London College of Music Exams, which are certified by the University of West London. They provide exams in the following areas:

  • Jazz Guitar
  • Popular Music Theory
  • Guitar Teaching

RSL (Rockschool Limited)RSL Logo

RSL (Rockschool Limited) are said to bring together the leading names in Contemporary Arts, including Rockschool Graded Music Exams, Performance Arts Awards and Vocational Qualifications. From a guitar perspective, they cover both electric and acoustic guitar, following the addition of the acoustic syllabus in February 2016.
